Sukabumi sits in western Java between Bogor, Bandung, and the Indian Ocean coast. The city itself is busy and practical, but the surrounding regency gives it a real travel identity: rainforest slopes, tea plantations, waterfalls, a famous suspension bridge, and the Ciletuh-Palabuhanratu Geopark to the south.
The most useful day from town goes north toward Situ Gunung Suspension Bridge and Curug Sawer, both inside the Mount Gede Pangrango landscape. The air is cooler than Jakarta, the forest is close, and the route is straightforward enough for a long day if you start early.
Sukabumi also has a food identity. Its soft, sweet mochi is sold around town, especially near the station area, and makes a good small taste of the city before heading back into the hills. This is not a polished resort base, but it is one of the better ways into West Java's wilder side.
