Built in 1218, the Htilominlo is one of the last great temples constructed before Bagan's decline. It stands four storeys tall and is notable for its well-preserved stucco decoration on the exterior — most temples have lost their plasterwork to centuries of weathering and earthquake damage. Inside, original wall paintings survive in some of the upper corridors, faded but still legible.
The temple is near the main road between Nyaung-U and Old Bagan and is often busy; go early or late to have it quieter.
