Paya Thone Zu

Linked three-shrine Bagan temple known for its unusual plan and traces of painted interiors

Paya Thone Zu is a quieter Bagan temple, but it rewards people who have already seen the headline stupas and want something more architectural. Its name means Three Pagodas, and the building really does feel like three shrines joined into one, with passages pulling you sideways through the complex.

The temple is usually mentioned for its wall paintings and for the slightly unfinished feeling of the structure. That makes it a good stop in the Minnanthu area, where the pleasure of Bagan is often less about one blockbuster monument and more about moving between smaller temples in the dry plain.
