The Walled City, also called the Androon Shahr, is the historic heart of Lahore — about 2.5 square kilometres of dense lanes, courtyard houses, bazaars, and Mughal monuments. Originally enclosed by a moat and 13 gates, it now spreads from the Fort and Badshahi Mosque east to Delhi Gate and south to the modern Mall.
The best way to see it is on foot, ideally with a guide from the Walled City of Lahore Authority (WCLA), which has restored several routes and havelis. Start at Delhi Gate; walk west along the Royal Trail past the Wazir Khan Mosque and the Sunehri Mosque to emerge at the Fort. Time it for late afternoon — the bazaars come alive after 4 p.m.
