The southern gate of the Walled City — the name means "cobbler" in Punjabi, a reference to the shoe-makers who historically worked in the bazaar inside. The original gate was demolished in the British period; what remains is the bazaar district, which still has the city's best concentration of khussa (traditional leather slipper) makers.
The Mochi Gate area is also home to several Mughal-period havelis, mostly in poor condition, and the Mochi Bagh — a small park used since the 19th century for political gatherings. Allama Iqbal's first major political speech was given here in 1929.
