Tomb of Allama Iqbal

The tomb of Muhammad Iqbal — poet, philosopher, and the intellectual godfather of the Pakistan movement — sits in a corner of the Hazuri Bagh between the Badshahi Mosque and Lahore Fort. The building is a small red-sandstone pavilion in restrained Mughal style, designed by the Punjab architect Nawab Zain Yar Jung.

A pair of Pakistani Army guards stands on permanent watch outside. Inside is a single marble cenotaph and a sparse interior — visiting takes five minutes but the location, framed between the great mosque and the fort, gives the place real weight. Iqbal's birthday (9 November) brings ceremony and crowds.
