West Bay is Doha's central business district and skyline, a narrow peninsula of towers that rose from sand flats starting in the 1990s. The architecture is unabashedly competitive — twisting, stacking, curving — and the ensemble from the Corniche or from the water is one of the more dramatic modern cityscapes in the Gulf.
West Bay has few tourist sights of its own, but the towers include the hotels, the Sheraton's landmark pyramid (one of Doha's oldest), the Torch Tower, the ConocoPhillips building, and several others of architectural note. Walking through at ground level is less impressive than the skyline view; the streets are wide, hot, and oriented around cars. The metro's Green Line now connects West Bay to central Doha.
