Imam Muhammad ibn Abd al-Wahhab Mosque

Qatar's national mosque, known informally as the State Mosque, can accommodate up to 30,000 worshippers and is the largest mosque in the country. The design is contemporary Islamic — clean lines, pale stone, a single tall minaret — without the ornamental excess of some Gulf mosques. It opened in 2011 and was named after the 18th-century scholar who founded the Wahhabi tradition of Sunni Islam, reflecting the close theological relationship between Qatar and Saudi Arabia.

Non-Muslim visitors are welcome during specific visiting hours (not at prayer times); the mosque office provides abayas and guides. The interior is vast and austere, with high ceilings and intricate geometric tilework. The grounds outside are landscaped and quiet. Located about 1.5 km from the Corniche, between the museum district and West Bay.
