Doha Metro

Doha Metro opened in 2019 and now covers three lines connecting the airport, central Doha, West Bay, Education City, and Lusail. It is clean, fast, and very well air-conditioned. Stations are notably designed — the network was built with architectural quality as an explicit goal, and several stations have installation art and considered detailing.

For visitors, the metro is the most useful for connecting the museum district (Al Bidda Park station) to West Bay, the airport, and Lusail. The Souq Waqif area is a short walk from the nearest station. Single-trip cards are available at all stations; the fares are low by Gulf standards.

A story
The metro's designers took unusually seriously the idea that stations should be architecturally distinctive. Each of the three lines has a unifying design language, and key stations were given to prominent architects: Aedas designed the airport station, Haptic Architects the Katara station. The Gold class carriages — available on all trains — have proper leather seats and owe something to a business-class airline aesthetic.
