Dilek Peninsula National Park

Dilek Peninsula National Park occupies the entire Mykale Peninsula southwest of Kuşadası, a rugged headland of pine forest, rocky cliffs, and secluded beaches almost entirely free of development. The park's beaches — Kavakli, İçmeler, Karasu, and Aydınlık — are some of the clearest water in the Aegean, accessible on foot from the park entrance.

The park is about 120 kilometres south of İzmir — reach it by bus to Kuşadası (about two hours) and then by dolmuş to the park entrance. The coastal walking trails through the pine forest are excellent. Day use fee is modest; arrive early in summer, as the beach car parks fill by 10am.

A story
Dilek National Park contains one of the last surviving populations of the Caïque wild horse in Turkey — a small, ancient breed descended from horses that roamed the Aegean region in antiquity and have been semi-wild in this peninsula for centuries. The park's forests also shelter wild boar, jackals, and the Aegean lynx — though the lynx is rarely seen. Birdwatchers can spot Bonelli's eagle, eagle owl, and black stork.
