Kaymakli Monastery is one of Trabzon's more fragile historic sites, an Armenian monastic complex whose surviving fabric hints at the city's multi-layered Black Sea past. It does not have the restored polish of better-known monuments, and that roughness is part of both its interest and its difficulty.
Go with realistic expectations: access, condition, and interpretation can be inconsistent. For travellers interested in Trabzon beyond Sumela, Hagia Sophia, and Ottoman-era sights, Kaymakli adds an important Armenian chapter to the city's story.
