The Trabzon Museum occupies the Kostaki Mansion, a three-storey late Ottoman townhouse built in 1916 for a prosperous Greek merchant. The building itself is the attraction: its elaborately decorated reception rooms with coffered ceilings, patterned tiles, and ornate fireplaces give a vivid picture of how the city's merchant elite lived in the early 20th century.
The museum collection covers ethnographic material from the Black Sea region — traditional costumes, weapons, household objects, and coins — alongside archaeological finds from excavations in the province. The natural history displays on the upper floor are more dated but include examples of the region's distinctive flora and fauna. The mansion is in the central Atatürk Square area and easy to combine with the surrounding streets of the old city.
