Pepper Farms

Phu Quoc pepper (tieu Phu Quoc) is considered among the finest in Vietnam — the island's volcanic soil, tropical rainfall, and extended growing season produce a berry with exceptional fragrance. Pepper has been cultivated here since at least the 18th century, and the farms in the centre and north of the island are small family operations with vines trained on wooden poles.

Several farms around the Kien Giang area welcome visitors and explain the cultivation and processing methods. The red and black peppercorns are sold direct from farms at prices well below what you'd pay at a market; the fresh green peppercorns (available seasonally) are something rarely seen outside the region. Easiest reached by motorbike from Duong Dong.
