Lillebælt Bridges

A few kilometres south of the centre, the narrow Lillebælt (Little Belt) strait separates Jutland from the island of Funen, crossed by two long bridges. The Old Little Belt Bridge (Den Gamle Lillebæltsbro), opened in 1935, is a graceful steel cantilever bridge once used by both road and rail, now reserved for slow local traffic and pedestrians.

A few kilometres north, the New Little Belt Bridge of 1970 is a sleek concrete suspension structure carrying the E20 motorway. Walking across the old bridge takes about twenty minutes and gives the best view in town of the strait — porpoises sometimes feed in the current below.
