Gudenå Kayaking

The Gudenå is Denmark's longest river, and the stretch from Randers down toward Randers Fjord and the Kattegat is one of the more accessible paddling routes in eastern Jutland. The river flows through flat lowland country after leaving Randers, with reed beds, waterfowl, and the occasional fisherman as the main company on quieter days.

Kayaks and canoes can be hired in Randers, and a popular day trip runs from town to the fjord. The river is calm and suitable for beginners in good conditions. Randers Fjord, where the river meets the Kattegat, is a protected nature area with significant birdlife. The trip can be extended into a multi-day paddle with camping, following the Gudenå upstream to its source through a sequence of lakes and wooded valleys.
