Randers Museum of Art (Kunstmuseum)

Randers Museum of Art (Randers Kunstmuseum) is housed in a purpose-built building in the town centre and holds a collection spanning Danish art from around 1800 to the contemporary period. The 19th-century Danish Golden Age paintings are a highlight, alongside works from the Skagen school and 20th-century Danish modernism.

The museum runs a changing programme of temporary exhibitions alongside the permanent collection. It is not a destination in itself for most travellers, but for anyone with an interest in Danish art it offers a good afternoon's viewing. Combined with the Kulturhuset across the street, this part of Randers has the feel of an intentional cultural quarter.

A story
Randers Kunstmuseum holds a significant collection of Danish art from the 19th century to the present, with a particular strength in Skagen painters — the colony of Danish and Scandinavian artists who gathered at the northern tip of Jutland from the 1870s onward, capturing the intense coastal light of northern Denmark. The museum also holds a collection of graphic art that is one of the better in the country.
