The National Art Gallery is housed in a low concrete building beside the Nordic House. It holds the largest collection of Faroese art anywhere, from the pioneering landscape painter Sámal Joensen-Mikines through to contemporary work. Mikines' dark, expressive paintings of grindadráp (pilot whale hunts) and Faroese village life dominate one wing.
The gallery is small enough to see in an hour but rewards a longer visit. There is a café and a museum shop. Combine with the Nordic House next door for an easy half-day of Faroese culture.
