Nordic House (Norðurlandahúsið)

Turf-roofed cultural centre showcasing Nordic art, music, and theatre

The Nordic House, opened in 1983, sits in the green Gundadalur valley a short walk from the centre. It is a long, low building with a grass roof that blends into the surrounding hills — designed to look as though it had always been there. The interior is panelled in Norwegian and Swedish woods and lit by huge angled skylights.

The Nordic House hosts the most ambitious cultural programme in the Faroes: concerts, theatre, exhibitions, lectures, and a busy summer festival schedule. There is a café and a shop. Worth a visit even if no event is on — the architecture alone justifies the walk over.
