Housed in the cellars and chai of a 17th-century négociant property in the Chartrons, this small museum covers the history of the Bordeaux wine trade from its origins to the present. The focus is on the merchant families who made the trade what it is — many of them Dutch, Irish, and German rather than French — and the commercial networks that spread Bordeaux wines across Europe and the Americas.
The exhibitions are compact and can be done in under an hour. Wine tasting is included in the entrance price. The Chartrons location makes it an easy addition to a walk through the neighbourhood; the context it provides for the surrounding streets of old négociant warehouses is useful.
