Place du Parlement is a small but perfectly formed Baroque square in the Saint-Pierre neighbourhood, built in the mid-18th century. The surrounding facades are harmonious and elegant — carved doorways, wrought-iron balconies, window proportions that are confident without being showy. In the centre stands a wrought-iron lamppost that has become something of an emblem of this part of town.
The square is ringed with restaurants and café terraces, which are busy from mid-morning through late evening in any weather. The surrounding streets — Rue du Parlement Saint-Pierre, Rue Saint-Rémi — are among the most pleasant in old Bordeaux for wandering, with wine bars, bistros, and cheese shops tucked into the ground floors of the old townhouses.
