Consenvoye German War Cemetery

Largest German military cemetery in the Verdun area — 11,000 graves

The German cemetery at Consenvoye holds over 11,000 German soldiers killed in the 1916–17 battles around Verdun. It is the largest of the German military cemeteries in the region — the dark stone crosses, four to a marker, lie in shadowed lines under tall trees.

The contrast with the white-marble American and the white-cross French cemeteries elsewhere on the battlefield is deliberate and striking. The site is administered by the German War Graves Commission and is open daily. About 25 minutes north of Verdun.
