Musée de la Princerie

Local history and decorative arts museum in a 16th-century mansion

The Musée de la Princerie occupies a fine Renaissance mansion built around 1525 for the Princier — the second-ranking dignitary of the cathedral chapter. The collection is the standard provincial mix: Gallo-Roman finds from the region, medieval ivories, religious sculpture, paintings, weapons, and a section on Verdun's traditional industries including the sugared almonds (dragées) for which the town is famous.

The Renaissance courtyard with its arcaded gallery is the loveliest spot in the centre of the old town and worth a coffee on its own. Free admission.
