The Place Maréchal Foch is the principal civic square of Verdun, fronting the Hôtel de Ville (the former Abbaye Saint-Paul) at one end and looking down the Avenue de la Victoire to the Monument à la Victoire on its high step. The Saturday morning market here is one of the better produce markets in Meuse.
A bronze of Marshal Foch — supreme commander of Allied forces at the end of WWI — looks across the square. It's a comfortable place to sit for half an hour with a coffee and watch the town go about its business.
