Berck sur Mer

Opal Coast beach town with broad sands, sand sailing, and easy access to northern French cities.

For a beach holiday in the north of France, Berck-sur-Mer offers everything you could want — except maybe the hot Mediterranean sun of the Midi. The sandy beaches are enormous, there is a casino, and the town is built around outdoor activities: sand sailing, horse riding, water sports, and long walks along the Opal Coast. The ideal place for an active beach holiday.

The towns of Boulogne, Arras, and Lille are not far, and even Paris is within reach for a day trip.

Things to Do

Berck-sur-Mer is built around its beach and the activities it enables. The sand here is wide, firm, and extends for kilometres in either direction — ideal for sand sailing, horse riding, and long walks. The town itself has a small museum and a couple of churches, but the real draw is the outdoor life along the Opal Coast. The Authie Bay estuary to the south is a serious bird reserve, and the dunes behind the beach shelter a landscape that feels wilder than the typical French seaside resort.
