Kolonaki is the wealthy quarter of central Athens, spread across the lower slopes of Lycabettus Hill and centred on the leafy Kolonaki Square (officially Plateia Filikis Etairias). The neighbourhood is a grid of expensive boutiques, art galleries, designer cafés, and the city's best restaurants. It is also where most of Athens's foreign embassies and several of its best museums — the Benaki, the Cycladic, the Byzantine and Christian — are located.
Come here for an afternoon coffee on the square, a slow shop along Voukourestiou and Anagnostopoulou, or a leisurely dinner at one of the higher-end taverns. The streets climbing toward Lycabettus get progressively quieter and more residential — pleasant for wandering away from the tourist crush below.
