The pedestrianised Apostolou Pavlou street is the great walk of western Athens — a wide, tree-lined promenade that curls around the foot of the Acropolis and the Hill of the Nymphs, linking the Thiseio metro to the Acropolis south slope and the start of Dionysiou Areopagitou. On one side rise the ancient hills and the rock itself; on the other, café tables and the Sunday overflow of the Monastiraki flea market.
It is free, open at all hours, and at its best in the early evening, when Athenians come out to stroll and the Parthenon turns gold above the pines.
