Monastiraki Flea Market

The Monastiraki Flea Market spreads out west of Monastiraki Square along Ifestou and Adrianou, intensifying on Sundays into a chaotic open-air market of secondhand records, antique furniture, military surplus, religious icons, and tourist souvenirs in roughly equal measure. The permanent shops are open every day; the open-air sprawl is a Sunday-morning event.

The quality of merchandise is uneven and most of the "antiques" are not, but the atmosphere is genuine and the wandering is enjoyable. Bargain hard, in cash. The market merges into Avissinias Square, where the more serious antique dealers cluster.
