The Stoa of Attalos is the long colonnaded building on the east side of the Ancient Agora — a complete 1950s reconstruction of the 2nd-century BCE original, funded by John D. Rockefeller Jr. and built from quarried marble using the original techniques. It is the only intact ancient stoa in the world, and a useful reminder of what a Greek agora actually looked like.
The interior houses the Museum of the Ancient Agora, with the finds from a century of American School excavations: red-figure vases, voting tokens, ostraka with politicians' names scratched on them (the origin of "ostracism"), and an extraordinary collection of small bronzes and inscriptions. Open with the Ancient Agora ticket.
