Museum of Cycladic Art

The Museum of Cycladic Art, in Kolonaki, holds the finest collection of Cycladic figurines in the world. These slim white marble figures — usually a stylised standing woman, eyes closed, arms folded across the chest — were made on the Aegean islands between 3,300 and 2,000 BCE, and influenced 20th-century artists from Modigliani to Henry Moore.

The Goulandris collection on which the museum is built is exhaustive: hundreds of figurines arranged in case after case, along with the pottery, weapons, and jewellery from the same culture. The upper floors hold rotating temporary exhibitions of considerable quality. Allow ninety minutes. Closed Tuesdays.
