Saint Stephen Viaduct

Graceful multi-arched bridge spanning the Séd valley

The Szent István Viadukt is a 230-metre brick viaduct on five tall arches, completed in 1938 to carry road traffic across the Séd valley and connect the modern lower town to the eastern half of the city. At the time of its construction it was the tallest road bridge in Hungary.

The viaduct is a familiar Veszprém landmark and is best seen from the road below, where the slender pillars rise out of the valley floor and frame the Castle Hill behind. A pedestrian path runs alongside the road on the bridge, with views down into the gardens of the valley.
