Things to Do

Trento's compact historic centre is largely pedestrianised and easy to cover in a long day, with the Castello del Buonconsiglio and the Duomo as the two heavyweight sights and a string of frescoed Renaissance palazzi in between. South of the old town, the MUSE — Renzo Piano's science museum in the former Michelin tyre factory district — is the best modern building in the city and an excellent half-day in itself. From the centre, a short cable-car ride goes up Monte Bondone for the alpine setting that defines Trento as much as any of its buildings.
