The single best ride in Gubbio. Two-person open cages hang from a single cable and climb the steep flank of Monte Ingino from Via San Girolamo at the edge of the old town up to the Basilica of Sant'Ubaldo at 800 metres. The trip takes about six minutes; the views over the rooftops of Gubbio and across the valley to the Apennines are extraordinary. You step into a moving cage — they don't stop, you have to time it — and step out the same way at the top.
Closed in bad weather and on Wednesdays in winter. Not for the vertigo-prone.
