Sant'Agostino

Romanesque church with Ottaviano Nelli fresco cycle of the Last Judgement

A modest church on the edge of the old town near the Porta Romana, easily missed. Worth the small detour for the apse and triumphal arch, covered in a remarkable Last Judgement fresco cycle by Ottaviano Nelli (early 1400s) — the local master who also painted the apse at San Francesco. The condition is good, the light is moody, and you usually have the church to yourself.
