Crna Glava

The highest point of the Bjelasica massif at 2,139 metres, Crna Glava ("Black Head") is a rounded, grassy summit reached by a long but technically easy hike from either the south (from Kolašin and the ski resort) or the east (from Mateševo and the high katuns). Allow a full day from valley to summit and back — 8 to 10 hours, about 18 km and 1,200 m of vertical.

The view from the top covers most of central Montenegro: Durmitor to the west, the Prokletije range to the south on the Albanian border, and the rolling Bjelasica plateau immediately below. There is no marked trail in places; pick up a 1:50,000 map locally before setting off, and check the weather — the mountain is exposed and storms can roll in fast.
