The largest of Bjelasica's six glacial lakes — about a kilometre long, 200 metres wide, and never deeper than 12 metres. The lake sits at 1,094 metres, ringed by old-growth beech, fir and maple, and is the focal point of Biogradska Gora National Park. The water is bracing in summer and frozen for much of the winter; the colour shifts from deep emerald in clear weather to slate grey under cloud.
You can walk the loop trail (3.5 km, mostly flat) in 90 minutes; rent a rowboat (€10 an hour) and pull yourself out into the middle for half an hour of complete stillness; or fish for trout if you have a permit. The wooden bridge at the outflow is the most-photographed spot in the park.
