Gomalandet (also known as Kirklandet) is the largest of Kristiansund's four main islands and primarily residential in character. The Atlanten Stadion — the main sports ground, used by Kristiansund BK for football — occupies a substantial portion of the island's northern end. The island gives a picture of ordinary Norwegian town life away from the harbour and museum areas: residential streets, a supermarket, a swimming hall, and the open fjord views that come with living on an island.
For visitors, Gomalandet is most relevant as a through-route: the Omsund Bridge on its eastern side crosses to the larger island of Frei, which connects to the mainland. Walking across to Gomalandet from Nordlandet via the Nordsund Bridge and continuing east gives a good sense of the town's scale.
