Omsund Bridge

The Omsund Bridge crosses the Omsundet strait between Nordlandet and Frei islands on the eastern side of Kristiansund, forming part of the road connection to the mainland. It is the least central of the city's bridges but offers good views across the eastern water towards the fjord. Cyclists and walkers use it to reach the mainland-side countryside; the flat terrain around Frei is more suitable for cycling than the rocky island interiors closer to town.

For most visitors the bridge is simply a functional crossing, but a walk or cycle out along the Frei shoreline provides a view back across the whole island city — the four main islands and their bridges visible as a connected chain — that you cannot get from within the town centre.
