Stavnes Lighthouse (Stavneset fyr) stands on the coast of Averøy island, roughly 8 kilometres southwest of central Kristiansund. It marks the approach to the inner waterway and has been guiding ships into the Kristiansund harbour since the nineteenth century. The setting is characteristically west Norwegian — a low headland of smooth granite swept by Atlantic wind, with the sea visible in three directions and the town's islands visible to the northeast.
Getting to the lighthouse requires a car (through the Atlantic Ocean Tunnel to Averøy, then by road along the coast) or a boat. It is a reasonable stop when driving out to the Atlantic Ocean Road. The lighthouse building is historic but not open to visitors; the point itself is accessible on foot across open land. Go for the coastal scenery rather than the structure.
