Dętka is one of Łódź's stranger small museums: an oval underground rainwater reservoir beneath Plac Wolności. The brick tunnel once formed part of the city's early twentieth-century sewer and water system, and today it gives visitors a short, atmospheric look below the street grid.
It is quick, unusual, and very Łódź, a city where industrial infrastructure often becomes cultural material. Pair it with Piotrkowska Street and the city's larger factory complexes for a fuller picture of how fast Łódź grew.
