Old City Park

Postwar park in Lodz's old-town valley, laid out where dense streets once stood.

Old City Park, or Park Staromiejski, sits in the valley of the hidden Lodka River, just north of Lodz's central commercial streets. It was created in the early 1950s after wartime destruction and postwar clearance had erased much of the old dense neighbourhood that once stood here.

The park is modest as a green space, but useful as urban history. It marks the gap between the city's pre-industrial old town and the later textile metropolis that made Lodz famous. Walk through it on the way to Manufaktura or the old market square, and it becomes a quiet reminder that Lodz's fabric has been remade more than once.
