The historic core of Wrocław — the few square blocks around the Rynek that contain almost all the main sights, restaurants, hotels, and shopping streets. The boundaries are roughly the Odra to the north, the moat (a long curved park) to the south and east, and Plac Solny to the west.
Most of the old town was destroyed in the 1945 siege and has been rebuilt with care and patience over the following 80 years — the cumulative effect is a working medieval-Renaissance town centre that looks much as it might have done in 1900, but with the population now Polish rather than German.
