The only synagogue in Wrocław (out of nine before the war) to survive Kristallnacht in November 1938 — saved because it stood in a courtyard surrounded by other buildings, and a fire would have threatened the entire block. The neoclassical building dates to 1829 and was used for storage during the war.
Carefully restored and reconsecrated in 2010, it now functions both as the active synagogue of Wrocław's small Jewish community and as a museum of Jewish life in Lower Silesia. The interior is a calm white-and-blue domed room; the museum on the upper floor traces the history of Jewish Wrocław and the post-war community's slow rebuilding.
