Le Châble

Valley railway hub and the cheaper base for Verbier

Le Châble sits at 820 metres in the Val de Bagnes, 800 metres below Verbier and linked to it by a 9-minute gondola. It is the closest railway station — direct trains run from Martigny on the Rhône Valley line — and where most independent travellers without cars first arrive.

The village itself is unfussy: a few traditional Valais wooden chalets and the 18th-century church of St Maurice. For visitors looking for a quieter and considerably cheaper base than Verbier, particularly outside ski season, Le Châble works well. The Brunet cable car climbs to the small Bruson ski area on the opposite valley side.
