Mont Gelé

3,023-metre summit with cable car access and no marked pistes

The Mont Gelé cable car rises to 3,023 metres from Attelas, ending at a peak with no marked pistes — every descent is off-piste, ungroomed and serious. The summit terrace is justifiably famous, and even non-skiers can ride up for the view and a coffee.

In summer the cable car closes; access is then by a strenuous hike from Attelas. Either way it is the most committing of the high lifts above Verbier, and the only one on which the locals will tell you, in clear French, not to ski beyond the boundary unless you know what you are doing.
