Uman

Central Ukrainian city known for Sofiyivka Park and the Breslov Hasidic pilgrimage.

Uman sits in central Ukraine, roughly between Kyiv and Odesa. It is a practical city rather than a showpiece, but two very different currents make it stand out: the landscaped world of Sofiyivka Park and the annual Breslov Hasidic pilgrimage to the grave of Rabbi Nachman.

That contrast gives Uman more identity than many towns of its size. One visitor may come for grottoes, ponds, and old landscape-garden theatre; another may come for a Jewish religious journey that changes the rhythm of whole neighbourhoods around Rosh Hashanah.

Travel in Ukraine remains affected by Russia's full-scale invasion, so current security advice matters. If conditions allow and you are crossing central Ukraine, Sofiyivka Park alone is enough to justify a pause, with the pilgrimage quarter and older churches adding context.
