A small, quiet hillside park between the Quayside and the Ouseburn, formed by the gradual heap of stones dumped from the holds of ships entering the Tyne to load coal. From the 17th century onwards it became the city's overflow burial ground — for Quakers, Methodists, sailors and other religious dissenters refused space in the parish graveyards.
A handful of headstones remain along the upper terrace; the rest of the burials are unmarked. A peaceful spot for a quiet half hour on the way down to the Ouseburn proper.
