Cabaret Voltaire occupies a network of vaults beneath the Old Town — stone-walled rooms that feel genuinely old and give the venue an atmosphere that no amount of interior design could manufacture. The programming covers electronic music, hip-hop, funk, and live acts; during the Edinburgh Festival it hosts a mix of comedy, music, and late-night events. On regular nights it is one of the better small-capacity venues in the city: good sound, interesting bookings, the sensation of dancing in a medieval cellar.
