Art Gallery of Sudbury

The Art Gallery of Sudbury lives in the W.J. Bell Mansion, an early-20th-century lumber baron's house on John Street between the downtown and Bell Park. The collection focuses on Northern Ontario artists, with rotating contemporary exhibitions in the upper galleries and the mansion's original woodwork still in place downstairs.

It is a small gallery — an hour is enough — but worth a stop for the building alone, and the staff are generous with explanations of the local artists. Free admission, with donations encouraged.
