Lake Laurentian Conservation Area

A 950-hectare protected area on the southeast side of the city, with around 30 kilometres of trails for walking, mountain biking, and — in winter — cross-country skiing and snowshoeing. The trails wind around three lakes, through mixed forest, and past beaver dams and rocky outcrops typical of the Canadian Shield.

The Nature Chalet at the main entrance has trail maps and a small interpretive area. Trails are graded from short flat loops to harder all-day routes. Wildlife — beavers, moose, the occasional black bear — is genuinely possible, so make noise on the longer paths.
