Hank Williams' Grave

Hank Williams is buried at Oakwood Cemetery Annex, a short drive north of downtown, under a tall white marble monument decorated with carvings of his cowboy hat and the song titles "I Saw the Light," "Hey, Good Lookin'," and "Cold, Cold Heart." His second wife Billie Jean is buried beside him.

The cemetery is open and free; the grave is easy to find — it sits on a small rise, frequently with offerings of beer cans, guitar picks, and handwritten notes from fans. There is no formal interpretation; bring whatever you remember about his songs.

A story
The grave is surrounded by Astroturf because fans pulled the grass out by the handful for years as souvenirs, leaving the plot bare. The tall marble memorial bears Hank's cowboy hat carved in stone alongside a list of his songs.
